Lacey Brown said it took a lot to try out for American Idol again, having come so close to the semifinals last year.
Lacey's reddish hair is glowing bright pink under the lights, as she begins Fleetwood Mac's Landslide. And, where last year she got cut in favor of Megan Joy, here she might as well be her, just on a stool instead of doing that little dance that Megan Joy did. Which might have been preferable, because this is a real mess: bad tone, bad pitch, bad choice.
"Uh ... " begins Randy, which is never a good sign. "I thought it was terrible. It was pitchy, all over the place."
Ellen thinks she's better than that, but she's not sure she'll get the chance to show it next week.
"I actually thought it was quite depressing," says Simon, who says that, 15 seconds in, he was wondering how much longer it was going to last. Him and me both.
"You usually hit those notes," says a mystified Kara, who recommends acts like Sixpence None the Richer or The Sundays.
"You've got nice eyes," offers Simon, by way of consolation. Since that's something Paula would've said, but she wasn't here to say it.
